African Partners
Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at 04:09AM We appreciate all the well wishes and encouragement in the comments on the Jo'burg post. If only I could tell every story we've been part of here!
Last weekend was especially incredible. Hands at Work's African partners have all come to where we are for a week. We've met two dozen people like Nomsa--an old African woman who cares for a thousand (yes, one thousand) orphans in Swaziland. She works in a rural area in the mountains and walks five kilometres one way to reach the nearest centre for her volunteers. She doesn't have a single vehicle.
How many people do you know with 3 or more vehicles just for grocery shopping and work? This woman, whom so many depend upon with their lives, prays every night just to get one, any one. Makes me feel a little greedy when I whine about our unreliable Venture.
We're going away now until Friday with all these people for a conference. Talk to you when we return.
